THE LONG VIEW

For Supervisors & Salaried Employees
June 29, 2022

Dear Fellow Supervisors and Salaried Employees,

I firmly believe we are better parents, friends, spouses, and citizens when we have good leaders. Great leaders foster work cultures where people are dignified, valued and respected. When you leave each day knowing your work is appreciated, you transition to your personal life more fulfilled, confident, and present. Leaders: never underestimate your ability to have a positive impact.

Hence, The Long View’s redesign. In our last letter, we launched a new format dedicated to this model: inform, instruct, and inspire. We've gathered news to keep you informed of compelling and relevant information to share with your teams. This time around the instruct and inspire sections center around attributes of an effective one-on-one meeting, grounded in both care and accountability. The inspire section specifically provides an example of the topic done well within our own ranks. Let us know what you think, and be sure to check out the “inspiring” interview with John Lilley, VP and Chief Information Officer, who shares his experience running meaningful one-on-ones with his team.

Just a reminder: for the links below to work, head to the portal first and log in. Then the links below should connect directly to the content.

Thank you,
Susan Harig
Director of Engagement & Development, Human Resources
REMINDER: You must be logged into the portal FIRST before below links will work.

SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS: PART 2

Consistent one-on-one meetings with your direct reports is a game changing practice that allows for growth as well as connection. Check out how to best implement this type of meeting with these tips, resources, and a Best Practices blog on how CIO John Lilley structures his own. Learn more here.

In the next Long View, we'll share tips for how to get through this sometimes painful managerial experience. Have particular situations you'd like us to address? Email us and we'll add it to our list to share resources on.
