What is the Aspen Training Academy?
The Aspen Training Academy is made up of over 100 Pros from the Ski and Snowboard School. The Academy is currently run by Josh Fogg (S3 Training Director). He works with, Jonathan Ballou (VP of Mountain Sales and Schools), Andy Docken (S3 Director of Operations), the Lead Trainers, and the S3 Management Team to design a pro training curriculum based on the S3 Standards for Success for the betterment of our guests, business, and Pros.
Our History
It is our core belief that better skiers and riders have more fun, and that better teachers create better skiers and riders. During the “restructure” of the Aspen Skiing Company and the Ski and Snowboard School, the Crown Family committed to having a company that invested in its employees. The Ski and Snowboard School recognized that professional training was one of the ways that we could positively invest and influence Pros. And so, the Aspen Training Academy was founded in 1994 by Jerry Berg to support that belief and help make the Aspen Snowmass Ski & Snowboard School the best-trained ski school in the world.
Today, the Aspen Training Academy is responsible for training S3 Pros and developing the most skilled snow-sports professionals. We are committed to providing cutting-edge, comprehensive, relevant, and inspiring training to recruit, retain, and develop the best talent in the industry.
Our school is now home to more National Team members, Examiners, and qualified Trainers, than any other. Through the efforts of our international team of Trainers, the Aspen Snowmass Ski & Snowboard School has become world renowned for the training opportunities and unique learning environment it provides.

S3 Trainers and Apprentice Trainers are responsible for delivering Pro Training Clinics. Every Trainer and Apprentice Trainer completes a Trainer Passport (signed by Verifiers) which is ratified by the Lead Trainers every 2 seasons to maintain their role as a Trainer. Apprentice Trainers work with a mentor from the Lead Trainer Team to help them become Trainers. Apprentice Trainers audit and lead specific clinics selected by their mentor.
